NEW ORLEANS OLYMPICS
BRANDING & IDENTITY DESIGN | STUDENT WORK
The Brief & Concept
A logo and identity was created for the 2028 Olympics set in New Orleans. The typeface chosen was Niveau Grotesk italics for its weight and directional movement. The symbol itself takes its inspiration from the local culture and the feeling of the Olympics. It depicts movement and its form finds influence from the Fleur de lis – a popular symbol in New Orleans – along with New Orlean's voodoo subculture and Olympic's forward movement.
The colors are derived from the traditional Mardi Gras celebratory colors and the form of the arms are used as a separate element in the applications. Overall, the logo is fun, inviting, and inspiring.
The goals of the logo were:
-
The logo should grasp the local culture of New Orleans
-
It should feel exciting and sleek
-
It should depict movement and community to emphasize Olympics
